Dr. Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir has worked in diverse constituencies, namely, academia, governments, think-tanks, international organisations, and media. He is engaged in research for pioneering new approaches to developmental public policies and designing innovative alternative solutions on the ground. He has led numerous projects for diverse organisations including governments, development partners and international organisations.
As a senior staff member and an advisor, he has experience in working with international organisations, civil society and non-government organisations in multicultural, multinational and diverse environments at home and abroad. He has provided advisory services to the government on multilateral negotiations such as WTO, UNFCCC, UNCBD, besides actively participating in those negotiations. He has been contributing to the multilateral processes as a member of different UN committees of experts.
Dr. Titumir is on the boards of different regional and national organisations and is the founding Chairperson of the Unnayan Onneshan, a multidisciplinary independent think-tank and served on the Syndicate, the decision making body of university.
He has been teaching economic theories as the founding faculty of the Department of Development Studies, University of Dhaka and also has taught economics at the Department of Economics, Royal Holloway, University of London, and at the Bangladesh Open University.
He has written articles and books on implications of structural adjustment, poverty reduction strategies, world trading system, regional economic cooperation, climate change,and in the areas of macroeconomics, poverty, agriculture, biodiversity, education and health.
Dr. Titumir received education from the universities of Dhaka, London and Carleton in economics, development and financial economics, and trade policy and commercial diplomacy respectively.
