Unnayan Onneshan-The Innovators has organized an in-house seminar on Saturday, October 10, 2010. K M Mustafizur Rahman, project associate (interim) of the organisation, has presented a paper titled “Present Social Context and Elderly Population in Bangladesh”. The study has disclosed the emerging rate of aging of population in Bangladesh, the causes behind such increase, problems faced by the elderly, government initiatives taken for them and suggestions of the author.

Seminar on ‘Trade Balance of Bangladesh’

An in-house seminar on ‘Trade Balance of Bangladesh’ has been held on 1 October, 2013 at 4.00 pm in Unnayan Onneshan’s conference room. Mr. Abdul Latif Mahmud, Researcher from Economic Policy Unit presented his paper focusing on the composition and performance of export and import,trends of foreign trade, sources of imports, directions of exports and the dynamic changes over the years along with the trends of export and import shares to GDP and balance of trade here. The Chair, Mr. Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir was present on the occasion along with other researchers of the organisation. In the end, The Chair conveyed his insightful observations for further progress followed by other audiences.

In House Seminar on 'Deficit and Debt'

seminar 25 augAn in-house seminar has been held on 25 August, 2013, Sunday at 4.00 pm in the conference room of Unnayan Onneshan. On this occasion, Md. Abdul Latif Mahmud, researcher from the Economic Policy Unit presented his paper on ‘Deficit and Debt’. The paper aims to observe the composition of government revenue income and expenditure, the internal and external sources of debt, the reduction of social expenditure such as on Health and Education as well as the low spending on agriculture and the increase of subsidy for rental and quick rental power plants.The seminar was followed by an active question-answer session participated by all the researchers of the organisation. In the end, the Chair, Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir conveyed his insightful comments on the topic to develop the research work further.

Steering Committee and Working Group Meeting of RESOLVE

The last meeting of the Steering Committee of the RESOLVE programme for the bridging (interim) period was held at Unnayan Onneshan on 28 August 2013. The committee welcomed Arie Schuurmans, the Associate Country Director of Oxfam Novib to Bangladesh. The committee discussed over issues including pending trainings on market access and advocacy strategy , procedure of shifting from pilot phase to the next phase and action plan for the first quarter of the first month of the next phase.

The second and last meeting of the Working Group of the RESOLVE programme for the bridging (interim) period was held at Unnayan Onneshan on 29 August 2013. The Working Group shared the progress of all partners during the bridging phase. It has also produced the action plan for the first quarter of the first month of the next phase as per the recommendation of the Steering Committee.

Second Expert Group Meeting on Biodiversity for Poverty Eradication and Development

Mr. Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, chairman of Unnayan Onneshan, attended the second meeting of the Expert Group on Biodiversity for Poverty Eradication and Development, held in Chennai, India on 4-6 December 2013 with a field trip on 7 December 2013.The Conference of the Parties (COP 11) requested the Expert Group to move towards a road map for integrating biodiversity into the social and economic dimensions of sustainable development. So, the meeting has taken into accounts the outcomes of the Rio+20 Conference, in the context of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011- 2020 and the Aichi Biodiversity Targets. The meeting was summoned by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity with the generous support provided by the Governments of Japan, France and India.
