Ecosystem Management

The research programme of the Unit conceptualises eco-system management as an interface of human-being and ecology that deals with human intervention on ecosystem vis-à-vis ecosystem services to human lives. Ecosystem is complex whereas human being plays dual role of shaping ecological landscapes and forming social-ecological production landscapes on the one hand while human activities are largely responsible for degrading ecosystem integrity, on the other. The Unnayan Onneshan has been active since its inception in the Sundarbans, the world’s largest mangrove forest and is one of the focus areas for the Unit. The Unit conducts research on traditional resource management and livelihoods of the forest peoples in collaboration with different national and international development partners
