The Unnayan Onneshan emphasises sustainable production and consumption system to form the basis for sustainability. The UO’s research on sustainable production and consumption system transcends beyond disciplinary boundary to encompass everything ranging from socio-politico-economics to bio-physical carrying capacity. The UO particularly focuses on three areas – (a) right to development, (b) intra-generational equity and (c) inter-generational equity. The UO makes the case for right to development and equity at international level for actions based upon differentiated responsibilities due to uneven levels of development. The Unit conducts forensic examinations into consumption and production patterns of different groups to forge for intra-generational equity. Similarly, rigorous multidimensional analyses on inter-generational equity locates unsustainable production and consumption systems, degrading ecological, social, and economic basis for tomorrow's society.
