Traditional Knowledge

Traditional knowledge is gaining importance in formal natural resource management day by day. Unnayan Onneshan, since its inception, has been articulating that traditional knowledge is important for sustainable development since it emanates from practice over long period of time. The Unit’s research on traditional knowledge explores many aspects of resource management and of special interests are complex relationships between indigenous ecological practices and other ways of interacting with the environment, redistribution in the balance of power, state-central structures and co-management for equal partnerships, institutionalised joint decision-making or legislated decision-making power at the local level. The change in power dynamics is often critical in the linking of state and especially local community’s knowledge systems
