This research programme of the organization aims to develop opinion pieces and research reports for monitoring and scrutinizing the activities on the international institutions.

International Economic Relations unit of Unnayan Onneshan scrutinizes the political, economic, legal and institutional aspects of today's global trading system. It focuses on the activities of the major IFI’s like the World Bank, IMF, and ADB etc. The programme also monitors the functions of WTO and the role of the key actors in global trade relations; in particular, the interplay of LDC’s vis-à-vis the Developed states and issues related to the World Trade Organization, its Dispute Resolution System, the current round of global trade negotiations (Doha) and prospects of revising it. Our research also ranges from Climate Change to issues of Peace and Development and their impact in this part of the world. The objective of the programme is to shape policies and discourses of the stakeholders for a sustainable development through an in-depth research and advocacy.

Unnayan Onneshan designs its research outputs to influence decision-makers at the national and international level. This research programme of the organization aims to develop opinion pieces and research reports for monitoring and scrutinizing the activities on the international institutions.

The programme considers the processes and policies that potentially influence national and regional development in the context of an increasingly global economy. Research considerations include the roles of institutions, market structures, and policies of international trade and finance in explaining development and welfare. In theory a global trade agreement is an ideal solution in terms of resource allocation, economic welfare and economic prosperity. The best solution is the trade agreement which lowers the trade barrier amongst members without having to lower barriers for non-members. However, like many other developing countries, Bangladesh is facing the issue whether to engage in bilateral trade agreements with industrialized countries, whether to engage in regional trade agreements with neighboring countries and evaluate its position in the WTO multilateral agreement.
