Programme on Health and Education  

The unit of social policy and equity depicts areas of restrictions and its impact on existing system (education and health). Equity in context of ensuring access to social services is most focused ideology in social phenomena. Thus the organization suggests some policy reforms to achieve a more people oriented system. The investigations on over-arching issues also aim to convert the service system into a discourse. Policy related issues are also selected to represent a critical analysis of the policies from the point of proper implementation to meet desirable success.

Policy Advocacy and Engagement 

Engagement with different government officials, union parishad at local level, development partners and grass roots has always been its entry points for policy advocacy. Undertaken research on critical issues opens up ideas to tackle challenging areas and provides opportunities to lobby with government.  

Advocacy and Dissemination 

Social unit has been a good source of knowledge generation through its vibrant publications on emerging issues. Dissemination of all outputs coming out of social units has been executed through organizational website, opinion piece/articles in media, policy brief and reports. The organization has very profound involvement in organizing events like workshops, seminar, and conference with government, NGOs, grass roots, civil society and development partners.

 
Programme on Working Lives and Social Protection

 

The Social policy and Equity unit of Unnayan Onneshan undertakes research on all aspects of working lives, emphasizes equality and social justice. To ensure equality and justice across society researches on various social issues are undertaken to asses the real condition of the society. Based on the research findings and policy analysis evidence based advocacy ensures the process of awareness and capacity building  of stakeholders at different level for Unnayan Onneshan’s goal of advancing ideas and building constituencies for social transformation. 

Research considerations of the unit include: economic security, household living conditions working conditions, educational and workforce prospects, and family stability of low-income persons.

Policy Engagement and Dissemination 

The objective of the organization is to create broad awareness among the civil society on current social issues. Through disseminating its research works and organizing events, the organisation put ideas directly to decision-makers at national and international levels. It has cultivated connections with public sector officials, politicians, business leaders, NGOs, trade unions, women groups, educators for building active support for ensuring social justice and equity across the society.  

Advocacy and Dissemination  

Unnayan Onneshan, a part of dissemination process, is continuously publishing research reports in website www.unnayan.org. These reports are downloadable free of charge and user friendly. Moreover, the organisation arranges seminars, workshops to disseminate research reports to the broader stakeholders with the aim of influencing policy modules for change. In addition, the organisation is publishing policy briefs and opinions in renowned national and international dailies and weeklies as part of capacity building programmes to aware mass people and also to inform policy makers about current situations of life and living conditions of mass people.

 

The Social Policy Unit conducts research and fosters discussion on all aspects of social policy. The aim is to reflect the experiences and views of the rights holders on policy interventions, and to communicate research findings with stakeholders in thinking through their implications with a view to bringing about change. The main topics of inquiry are: education, health, women and children. 

Programme Areas 

§         Education

The Unit promotes education as a basic human right, and provides citizen’s reports on interventions in the field of education to help mobilizes public pressure on governments and the international community to fulfil their promises, including free, compulsory public basic education for all people. For its concern with improving the educational process, the Unit encourages scholarly inquiry and promotes the dissemination and practical application of research results. 

§         Health

The Unit conducts applied research to contribute towards ensuring universal access to quality health care, and to hold accountable local authorities, national governments, international organisations and corporations. 

§         Women

The Unit aspires to influence global debates on women and development by offering holistic analyses from a Southern perspective that is both grounded in women's experience and inspired by women's collective strategies and visions. 

§         Children

The Unit’s work is grounded in that all children are equal, and have human rights such as the right to food, shelter, health care, education and freedom from violence, neglect and exploitation. The Unit enhances capabilities of campaigns for long-term change.
