Growth or Contraction?

State of Bangladesh Economy & Development  2011-12growth or contraction

This book comes at a time when the Government of Bangladesh is making its final laps of the declaration of the national budget for the coming financial year. On the other hand, the country has been facing challenges towards attaining sustained economic growth via inclusive development. An effort has been made to find out a balanced approach on equalising growth and deficit reduction.

An attempt has also been pursued towards analysing developments in light of the recently adopted IMF-MEFP policies and prescriptions, in the backdrop of global debate on austerity and growth. The diverse interest groups concerned with the economic and social policy discourse is kept in mind too. Hence, the performance of the real and the social sectors of Bangladesh is presented in this volume, with special focus on the country’s macroeconomic situation.
